Fiber optic connectors are devices that provide detachable (active) connections between optical fibers.

Fiber optic connectors are devices that provide detachable (active) connections between fibers, precisely aligning the two ends of the fibers to maximize the coupling of light energy emitted from the transmitting fiber into the receiving fiber, while minimizing the impact on the system caused by their intervention in the optical link. This is the basic requirement of fiber optic connectors. To some extent, fiber optic connectors also affect the reliability and performance of optical transmission systems.
Fiber optic connectors can be classified based on the transmission medium into common single-mode and multi-mode connectors for silicon-based fibers, as well as other fiber optic connectors using materials like plastic as the transmission medium. They can also be categorized by connector structure types such as FC, SC, ST, LC, D4, DIN, MU, MT, and various other forms. Among them, ST connectors are typically used at the wiring equipment end, such as fiber distribution frames and fiber modules, while SC and MT connectors are usually used at the network equipment end. Based on the shape of the fiber end face, there are FC, PC (including SPC or UPC), and APC; and based on the number of fiber cores, there are single-core and multi-core (such as MT-RJ) distinctions. Fiber optic connectors are widely used and come in various types. In practical applications, we generally distinguish them based on the differences in the structure of the fiber optic connectors.
